Potential Funding Sources

The Pawnee County Economic Development Foundation, Inc. was incorporated in 1989. Since that time its primary funding source has been the Pawnee County government, first as a direct annual grant and later as a part of the on-cent sales tax. A small amount of money is collected as dues. Members pay $25. per year.

Some potential funding sources are:

I. Utility companies - In Oklahoma, by law, utility companies must spend a portion of their rates to benefit economic development in the areas they service. If requested, this is done as a dollar amount per meter. Specific grants are also given. A few companies that would probably be in this category are:

Indian Electric Cooperative
KAMO
GRDA
ONG
OG&E

II. Large Corporations located in Pawnee County - Most large corporations have set up foundations, which give grants to the local area. In Pawnee County some of these organizations are:

Wal-Mart Stores
Wood Industries

III. Large Corporation with ties to the area - Most large companies have set up foundations. They usually will donate to causes espoused by their employees. Some of these would include:

Warren Foundation
Amoco Foundation
Occidental Petroleum

IV. Local Banks and Businesses - Most local banks will contribute to economic development. They realize that an improved economy will improve their business. These would include:

First National Bank of Pawnee
First National Bank of Cleveland
Pawnee National Bank
Cleveland National Bank
Superior (Branch of Boatman's Bank)

V. Small Businesses Association - www.sba.gov

VI. Cities and towns located within the County - Usually cities and towns within the County usually the need for coordinated efforts and will donate to the economic development foundation.
